The Big Canoe Property Owners Association provides the following information.

Addresses:

Lot numbers have been used since Big Canoe’s inception. The POA, FedEx, UPS, AJC and others use lot numbers to locate your property.

If your home is new or you do not know your “911 address”, you need to IMMEDIATELY call either Dawson County 706/344-3665 or Pickens County 706/253-8980. Many of the utility companies will not establish or transfer service without the “911 address”. Our emergency vehicles respond to your “911 address,” therefore it is required that all residences be identified with 911 numbers. Your 911 number should be placed on both sides of your street post. You may contact Dennis Wright at 706/265-7417 or Dan Design at 706/692-0202 to obtain your lot post.

About our mail and mailing address:

We get our mail by Rural Free Delivery from our main post office is in Jasper. We have a post office building in the Big Canoe village for our individual boxes. Think of it as a place where all our RFD boxes are located. You can arrange for a box assignment at our Big Canoe post office or the Jasper Post Office at 706/253-4300. There is no other window service for such things as stamps and money orders at this office.

Use the following format for your address:

        Jane Doe (Use your name)
1234 Turkey Lane (Use your lot number.)
10000 Big Canoe (Use your post office box number here.)
Big Canoe, GA 30143-1234 (Look up your Zip+4 code: Click here)

You may use “Jasper, GA” instead of “Big Canoe, GA” if you prefer. However, since we do not live in Jasper, most residents prefer to use the Big Canoe address for residence location purposes.

  1. Confirmation that the seller has paid all monies due to the POA,
  2. Copy of settlement statement,
  3. Transfer fees and
  4. Waiver of right of first refusal.

Cards and a new homeowners packet are mailed out each Friday after Big Canoe POA receives your documents from the closing attorney or the above items may be taken to the POA Accounting Office (at the Canoe Lodge) Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Transponders and Automated Gates

To obtain your transponder retrieve the Property Owner Vehicle Data Form [PDF] on line.  Fill out the form and bring it with you to either gate for it to be applied to you vehicle by our gate personnel. Or stop by the Canoe Lodge to pick up the form, and follow the same procedure.

Each home will be provided two transponders, each lot one. Additional transponders may be purchased for family members living full time at you residence with the additional paperwork. The cost is $15 which can be billed to your lot.

Family Identification Cards:

Property owners may pick up Annual ID cards, which allow their family members to enter the property by showing the ID card at the Main Gate or North Gate. These cards are available at the Canoe Lodge 706/268-3346 or at the Accounting Office 706/268-1114. An owner must pick up ID cards in person.
