 10:00 AM-5:00 PM  OKTOBERFEST
There’s no better place to be on Saturday, October 12 than at the Wildcat Activity Field when Big Canoe celebrates Oktoberfest. Gates will swing open at 10:00 a.m. and the fun goes strong until 5:00 in the afternoon. There’s no admission charge. Don’t spend one minute worrying about parking. There will be five shuttle buses running from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. from the upper playfield parking lot (Chapel lot) to Wildcat and back again. There will be plenty of room for all the bags carrying your treasures and trinkets purchased that day. This is Big Canoe’s largest event of the year with over 50 arts and crafts vendors selling wares ranging from pottery, custom furniture, tasty food treats and handcrafted jewelry. Kids won’t be bored as there’s an official Kids’ Zone filled with games, an obstacle course, a slide the size of Paul Bunyan and family activities galore. To celebrate all things German, a costume contest will score big prizes and possibly a few belly laughs. New this year is a yodeling contest to channel the best of The Sound of Music. Get your pipes ready for action! The Clubhouse culinary crew will proudly present their German buffet tent, food trailer/bar and beer wagon. An additional authentic German bakery and chocolate shop will add a touch of sweet. What’s Oktoberfest without beer? Dry, for sure. Big Canoe’s beer wagon will be there with suds aplenty. Wine and cocktails will be available from the Food Trailer. Food and drink purchased from the buffet tent, food truck/bar and beer wagon will utilize a ticket system ($2.00 equals one ticket.) If you want to grab yours early to avoid lines on the day of Oktoberfest, stop by the Wellness Center or Canoe Lodge beginning Wednesday, October 2 to grab a bunch. Volunteers are always needed to drive a successful event. If you would like to assist, contact Teri Sawyer at [email protected] or (706) 268-1115.
