Welcome to Leadership Big Canoe 2026 - 2027

LBC sessions and activities provide the opportunity to tie Big Canoe’s history, operations and volunteerism together so one can be a better-informed and active community member.

Classes meet at the clubhouse one Friday a month at 8:00 am from September to April. Classes usually end by 1:00 pm. A program fee of $80 is charged to cover expenses.

Activities will include class, individual, and group participation. Class activities will be designed to actively participate in needed volunteer activities as well as develop ideas that will enhance the community. Historical focus areas have included safety and security, renting, traffic, forest management; volunteer portal;
attracting and retaining employees and the LBC alumni directory. Projects in the past have included a wide variety of ideas and improvements.

You qualify if you own property in Big Canoe, are at least 21 years of age, are in good standing with the POA, and are willing to serve as a volunteer with a continuous and active commitment within Big Canoe or the surrounding communities following graduation. Current volunteer service will fulfill this requirement.

Join us for an interesting, rewarding and fun experience and make some new friends in the process. LBC is sponsored by the Big Canoe POA and the Big Canoe Chapel.

Our Mission

To provide learning opportunities and hands-on experiences that help current and future community leaders gain a stronger understanding of Big Canoe while developing the leadership skills essential for success in volunteer settings.

Testimonials

Perhaps the best indicator of the quality of the program comes from some of the comments by some of the 450 plus graduates in the last 19 years.
"The opportunity to gain the knowledge specified in the objectives was excellent and impressive."
"I thought I knew a lot about Big Canoe since I owned a lot for many years before I moved here full time and I had served on POA committees, but I was wrong - I did not realize how much I did not know. Thanks for the experience."
"I was hesitant to take the class. I thought it would be BC propaganda. I was wrong! It was great! Thanks for your hard work."
